VMR BUILDING SET FOR FACE LIFT

The Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) Raby Bay building in William Street, Cleveland will soon have a new, more contemporary look.

Designed to enhance safety, response time and aesthetics, the building upgrades are on target for completion in mid-February and include external rendering and painting of the entire building, internal painting, and construction of a third boat shed.

VMR Raby Bay spokesman Carsten Thomsen said the existing boat ramp had already been extended and would service the new shed, making it easier and quicker to launch the rescue boats.

He said the upgrades were made possible in part through a donation from Dulux of all the paint and render needed for the project.

"Given we are largely a self-funded organisation relying on collections from our members and a few major sponsers, such as Energex, we don't have the capacity to meet our requirements without support and donations.  This support is hugely appreciated," he said.       - LYN UHLMANN
